The Lindau lighthouse in Lake Constance is the only lighthouse in Bavaria. It is also called the "new lighthouse". Since 1856 the lighthouse with its total height of 36 meters is in operation. It is also one of the few lighthouses that have a clock in the facade. The first six years of its existence the light was produced by an oil fire, later the tower was then operated electrically and in the early 1990s it was completely automated. The lighthouse can be visited and offers fantastic views.

Heligoland - a very special place in Germany! This island in the North Sea, consisting of a main island and a secondary island Düne, covers less than 2 square kilometers of land area. The history of lighthouses on Helgoland dates back to 1811. Today's lighthouse on Oberland has the strongest beacon of all German lighthouses, its light can be seen 50 km away on clear nights.

The lighthouse of Heligoland has a long history and is a landmark of this small island in the North Sea. A stamp released on July 2023 goes perfectly with our iconic vintage travel card "Helgoland" This card holds a corresponding special cancellation mark "Tag der Briefmarke - Leuchtturm Helgoland" of July 2023 which turns the card into a maxicard. Lighthouses are fascinating! This beautiful maritime postcard features 8 different lighthouses of the German North Sea. Their names are Hohe Weg, Arngast, Kleiner Leuchtturm Borkum, Campen, Neuer Leuchtturm Wangerooge, Norderney, Pellworm und Pilsum. Can you smell the sea?

In the south of the North Frisian island Sylt on a sand dune stands the lighthouse Hörnum. Construction of the 34-meter high red and white banded tower began in 1907. The lighthouses Westerheversand and Pellworm are almost identical in construction. From 1914 to 1933, one room of the Hörnum lighthouse housed Germany's smallest school with two to five pupils. The lighthouse is open to visitors and can even be used as a place for weddings.
