Nordrhine-Westphalia is the province in Germany that is home to more than 20% of the population. Neighbouring countries are the Netherlands and Belgium.

Karneval, Fastnacht, Fasching - these and more words describe carnival as celebrated in different parts of Germany. Depending on the region, city and sometimes village, there is a huge variety of rituals and traditions. The big parades are the most prominent part of these "crazy days". Things in common are music, costumes and much fun! Get a taste of it with this uplifting postcard!

Whether "Eiffel Tower of the Ruhr" or "most beautiful coal mine in the world" - there are many descriptions for the Zollverein coal mine. No doubt, this former coal mine in Essen is a highlight of German industrial culture and, as such, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. A visit is definitely worthwhile!

For the first time we dedicate a postcard of the HPC series to a city, and it is not even a capital - Bielefeld. There are many jokes about Bielefeld in Germany, the truth is, it is a beautiful city! And for whatever reason, many inhabitants of Bielefeld are active in Postcrossing. One of the reasons for the unofficial title of "capital of Postcrossing".

Going by numbers of inhabitants, Northrhine-Westphalia is the biggest state in Germany. Many people mean big cities, industry and many cars - yes! But there is so much more that that - rich culture, beautiful nature, great sports just to name some aspects. Take a closer look and you see it is well worth it! Of course a special HPC postcard is long overdue.
